The Northmen cometh...

Another update for my patient readers today and this one is something a little different.  This is Ragnar Lothbrok from Gripping Beast for the SAGA game.  Some of you may be familiar with the character from the History Channel show, Vikings though this is likely a more accurate portrayal.  The model is based for the game SAGA by using a large 40mm round base which I gave a realistic northern treatment.  He was actually pretty simple to paint with him being knocked out in an afternoon.  Here are some pictures so enjoy and feel free to comment.

Roaming the wide open expanse of space...

It has been far too long since I last updated my blog.  I will admit that I tend to neglect my blog when working on commissions.  Since I last updated the blog I have completed several commissions but have forgotten to post them to my very patient readers.  To apologize here are some pictures of some recently completed Nomads from the Infinity game by Corvus Belli for a client.  These were painted to match some pictures provided by a client and I must say I really enjoyed the color scheme.  The bases were some custom bases again provided by the client.  Without further adieu here are the Nomads in all their glory.

Flower Power

Another commission down and this one has been a fun one.  I have painted quite a bit for this client in the past and this is his latest batch.  This batch however was unique in that I had a little bit of freedom with one of the models.  The small truck is actually a special character from the Operation Drop Bears Dive supplement for the Heavy Gear Blitz game named Massimilliano Gregorio.  He drives an Antelope Repair Vehicle which I managed to cobble together using various parts sent by the client and a few of my own.  The original model featured in the book was built out of various parts so I ha a little freedom in replicating it.  He was painted to match the scheme I have used for the client's whole WFPA force.  I decided to have a little fun with his base and added some accents that I thought really made the model pop.  The client actually liked the flowers so I knew I had a winner.

I also painted a variety of miniatures for him to mix into his already painted squads as well as the start of his Airborne Dragoon squad which is currently on its way to me for paint.  One of the Hunter XMGs was a repaint of another commission painter's work.  The miniature was in bad shape so I had to strip the paint and show it some much needed paint love.  It turned out pretty well considering the condition I received it in and now can shine with the rest of the client's army.

The Dark Lion of Abel

Continuing the post I started yesterday here are some more Anima Tactics miniatures I recently completed.  This one is the dreaded Samiel, the Black Lion from the Empire faction.  He is a beast in the game and features some very interesting background.  The miniature is quite dynamic and features his spectral beast to add to his base.  I decided to paint him like the art with his black armor and stark white hair.  In the art he wears all black which can be difficult to pull off without looking boring.  I decided to go with some grey to weather his cloak and give it some subtle difference from the armor.  I went with a lush green base to match the rest of my Empire and also give a dark model some color and life.

Everyone has their favorites...

So like the title says everyone has their favorite miniature game and one of my favorites just happens to be Anima Tactics.  For me it really came down to the aesthetics and the gameplay.  It is something of a hidden gem and not what I would call a mainstream game by any means.  The game originated, like many out there, as an RPG.  The world is a vivid and detailed one blending Asian and Western cultural themes, long lost high technology with magic, and a rich, detailed personalities.  The game features some fun mechanics and many unique characters.  Why do I mention all this on a blog about my painting?  Well because I painted some recently and wanted to show them off.  These are my demo sets and feature some really nice miniatures.  These are the Light and Dark starters available through Cipher Studios and each feature two highly detailed miniatures as well as rules, dice, tokens, and cards.  The Dark Starter features two figures from the Samael faction, Dark Chesire and Bael.  Both were single piece miniatures yet featured some truly detailed features.  the Light Starter on the other hand contains figures from two separate factions, Kronen of the Sacred Holy Empire of Abel and Saint Evangeline of the Church.  These figures however were two part miniatures but assembly was a breeze with the parts fitting perfectly.  I painted these up to match the gorgeous art and gave them simple bases that contrasted nicely with the paint schemes.  Enjoy these pictures of the two boxes.

CNCS goes to war!

Here is the commission that I have been working on over this past week.  The scheme is based on an Ice Hellion Galaxy from Battletech with some slight modifications at the client's request.  The scheme is quite striking with the contrast between the tan and black. Here are the completed models for your enjoyment.

The Mammoth strider here has been magnetized so all options are interchangeable and the polarity is done so all parts can be used in any combination.  All the options are possible so the client should have no problems when the new Northern Field Guide comes out.

The following are the client's Fire Support and G.P. Squad.  These were done in the same scheme and feature some simple yet suitably Terra Novan.  The Koala gears were added and I am a big fan of these particular miniatures.

The infantry I painted were a platoon each of Northern and NuCoal.  Both feature the standard studio scheme and are based the same as the rest of his forces.  These infantry are a nightmare to base but they turned out pretty nice.
